Guts and Luck: The Harsh Reality Revealed at a High School Reunion
High school reunions are always a time for nostalgia. The classmate who used to copy homework and ended up attending a vocational school is now driving a luxury car and is a well-known entrepreneur in the building materials industry. His success seems to defy our expectations back in the day. Those of us who were once top students are now stuck in cubicles, going bald over a meager salary. When we toasted, our eyes met, and everyone addressed him as 'Boss Wang.' With a hint of drunkenness, he exclaimed, 'I used to think you guys would achieve great things, but now I realize that having guts is what truly matters.'
His words were harsh but true. We have to admit that the education system filters out those who are obedient and rewards those who dare to break the rules. A good education provides a safety net, but in the real world, success often depends on having the audacity to take risks and a dash of luck. We used to think that getting into a good university and landing a good job was the key to success. However, reality tells us that true success requires more courage and opportunities.
The classmate's success wasn't due to his academic achievements but because he had the guts to try and take risks. We top students may have read more books, but our courage is still stuck in our high school days. We need to learn from his fearlessness and how he broke through his own limitations to create his opportunities. Only then can we truly succeed and realize our value.
Of course, luck is also an essential factor in success. The classmate may have encountered good opportunities, met the right people, and seized the right moment. We also need to learn how to create our luck, grasp opportunities, and seize the moment. Only then can we truly succeed and achieve our dreams.
