The Shattered Dream of Getting Rich Quick: From Overnight Success to Losing Everything
I have a high school classmate who made a fortune doing 'killing pig plate' investments in 17-18, earning an eight-figure income. He returned home in glory, held a grand wedding, bought two villas and two BMWs, and even opened a large restaurant. His life seemed so luxurious and successful, but in reality, his wealth was just a fleeting illusion.
In less than a year, he lost almost all his money. He sold his houses, his wife left him, and he was left with nothing overnight. Then, he borrowed 200,000 yuan from me to start a business in Cambodia. I found out that he went back to his old ways, doing 'killing pig plate' investments again. It seems that after tasting the sweetness of quick success, he couldn't live a steady life anymore.
Recently, he came back and messaged me to hang out in the morning. He definitely wasn't going to return my money, and I wasn't sure if I wanted to meet up. I wonder if he wants to borrow more money? I recalled his luxurious cars and villas back in the day, and now he's reduced to this state, which is truly sigh-inducing.
I started thinking, why are some people so short-sighted? Why can't they be content with their current lives and instead chase after those elusive wealth dreams? I think maybe it's because they lack a sense of security and confidence. They always feel that they're not good enough, not rich enough, not successful enough. So, they go after those illusory things and end up losing everything.
