Indulging in Guilty Pleasures, the Mental Panacea for Burned-Out Workers
I once swore to lose weight and deliberately ordered a 50-yuan light salad for lunch. After a few bites, it felt like I was eating grass, and the more I ate, the more miserable I felt. Thinking about my mortgage and clients chasing me for deadlines, why would I want to torture myself with bland food?
So I went downstairs and bought a jianbing pancake with extra sausage and egg, and the moment the oil dripped down my chin, my soul was elevated. Experts keep saying that junk food is bad for your health, but they don't understand that for many burned-out workers, high-calorie cheap food is our only low-cost source of dopamine to fight against the crap life.
Thinking about those days when I had to count calories for every bite, what's the point of living longer? Occasional indulgence is the panacea that keeps our minds sane. We don't need lectures about healthy food; we need the pleasure of satisfying our taste buds.
So, I've decided to stop forcing myself to eat those tasteless healthy foods. Occasionally, I'll indulge in a jianbing pancake with extra sausage and egg or devour meat, and that's when life feels worth living. Because for us burned-out workers, indulgence is what drives us to live.
