Is Evil Rewarded? The Silence and Truth of a Village
Do you believe that evil is rewarded? This question has been lingering in my mind for a long time, especially after hearing the story of this village. The village where I grew up was a place where kind and simple people lived, their lives were simple but full of warmth and kindness. However, a shocking event occurred in such an environment.
About twenty years ago, a high school girl from our village was assaulted on her way home from night school. It was too dark, and the girl didn't see the perpetrator's face, so the case was never solved. Over time, the girl's mental state deteriorated, and she eventually dropped out of school. This event had a profound impact on the girl's family and the village, and everyone was saddened and outraged by her experience.
When the girl was in her twenties, her parents married her off to a man in his forties who was a bachelor. The couple lived with the girl's parents, and a year later, the girl gave birth to a child. On the day of the child's full moon celebration, the man got drunk and boastfully claimed that he was actually the perpetrator of the assault all those years ago. He said he didn't mind the girl's past because they now had a child, and he wasn't afraid of anything anymore... This news was like a thunderbolt on a sunny day, shocking the entire village.
A few days later, the girl's family suddenly announced that the man had passed away. The girl's parents told outsiders that the man had died of a sudden illness, and they quickly buried him. The villagers all knew the truth, and they tacitly maintained their silence. What is the truth behind the silence of this village? Is evil rewarded? This question has been lingering in my mind.
