Those Seemingly Tough Clients
I've worked with over a hundred clients, each with their unique story, yet sharing some common themes. Some break down in tears from the start, pouring out their pain, while others are perplexed, searching for answers. Their problems aren't difficult to solve. The tough ones are those who are extremely clear-headed and calm.
These individuals have a deep understanding of themselves, aware of how their family of origin has influenced them, knowing they have an avoidant attachment style, and understanding the reasons behind their emotional connections. They've even mastered many psychological techniques. In the consulting process, they always appear extremely calm, as if they already know what they need to do. However, this calm exterior makes it harder for them to tap into their emotional world.
I've found that these individuals often possess strong self-analytical skills, able to clearly describe their problems and even find solutions. The issue lies in their over-reliance on rational thinking, neglecting the importance of emotions. They need to learn how to connect with their emotions, to truly feel their feelings.
In the consulting process, I need to help them shift from 'knowing why' to 'feeling why.' This is a long and difficult journey, but also the most crucial one. Only when they genuinely feel their emotions can they truly begin to change.
