The Bitterness of an Unemployed Man: A Family Crisis Triggered by a Simple Question
Recently, a simple question 'Do you have any Coca-Cola to drink?' went viral online, resonating with many people who empathize with the struggles of unemployed men. I am one of them, and the shadow of unemployment has been looming over my family. My wife even threatened to divorce me if I couldn't find a job within a year.
I remember January 23rd, 2026, when I received a notice from my company that I would be laid off the following month with an n+1 compensation package. I had to break the news to my wife, who didn't react immediately, but I knew she was waiting for my next move.
On February 6th, 2026, I officially became unemployed. I started taking on part-time jobs, earning a small income, but my wife was still unhappy about my situation.
On April 11th, 2026, I made a mistake on a part-time project and lost 12,960 yuan, which I had to compensate. My wife was furious, and this time she finally exploded, saying that I was so poor that I didn't even dare to turn on the air conditioner.
Those words pierced my heart like a needle. Yes, I was unemployed, I was poor, but I was still the man of this family, and I had to take responsibility for my family. So I continued to take on part-time jobs, doing projects that didn't pay well, but my wife was still dissatisfied.
On May 4th, 2026, my wife and mother-in-law went on a trip with our son, leaving me to work from home, taking on part-time jobs. It was then that I truly understood the bitterness of being an unemployed man.
