A 34-year-old Single Woman's Ideal Man: Not Even a Tall, Dark, and Handsome Guy Can Meet Her Standards
I have a 34-year-old best friend who has never been in a relationship. Every time we chat, I ask her what kind of man she's looking for, and her requirements are always extremely high: a PhD degree, over 180cm tall, fair skin, handsome, emotionally stable, and high EQ. It sounds like the standard configuration of a perfect man.
I joked with her, 'Forget it, when you're old, just come live with me and my husband.' My friend laughed and said, 'Your husband doesn't qualify.' I continued, 'With your requirements, only a super-rich and handsome guy can meet them.' My friend smiled helplessly, and we both knew that finding such a perfect man is like chasing a dream.
I started thinking, why do we always yearn for a perfect partner? Is it because we're afraid to acknowledge our own flaws, or because we believe that only perfect love is true love? Or is it because we've been brainwashed by perfect love stories in variety shows and novels?
I think we should try to look at the problem from a different angle. The perfect man may not exist, but we can try to find someone who is real, flawed, and truly loves us. At least, we won't be disappointed by not finding a perfect partner.
Maybe my friend will eventually find her perfect man, but more likely, she'll find a real, flawed, but loving man. Either way, I'll support her, even if she chooses to live with me and my husband in the end.
