Mercy is not Weakness, Kindness is the Real Strength
Why should we "let go of grudges and show mercy"? This question has been lingering in my mind, especially when I recall two incidents that I witnessed over twenty years ago. Although it's been a long time, the scenes are still vivid in my memory.
The first incident occurred at a well-known restaurant in the county town. A young female boss, who had just taken over, was asked to pay a small worker 300 yuan that she had deducted from his wages. However, not only did she refuse to pay, but she also insulted the worker. As a result, the worker, armed with a sharp knife, forced the couple to leave. Although the boss's behavior was outrageous, I still think that if she had chosen to be lenient and considerate at the time, things might not have escalated to that point.
The second incident involved the richest man in the county, who claimed to have connections with both the government and the underworld. He was contracted to repair a dam, but after the households downstream, who raised ducks, were flooded and repeatedly sought compensation without success, someone with a hidden explosive device detonated it in his office. Although this extreme behavior was shocking, it also triggered my thoughts on the importance of mercy. If the rich man had chosen to be lenient and compensate the victims from the beginning, would the tragedy have occurred?
Through these two incidents, I gradually came to understand the truth that "mercy is not weakness, kindness is the real strength." Leniency and kindness can not only avoid conflicts but also create better outcomes. Therefore, when we face similar situations, let's not forget to "let go of grudges and show mercy," because this is not only a kindness to others but also a protection for ourselves.
