That Thing About Social Media Algorithms
I just have to vent about this - ever since I cursed out a few pedophile posts on my homepage, I've been seeing a lot of pedophilic content in my timeline, which is totally not what I want to see!
I think this is a really weird phenomenon. Are social media algorithms really that stupid? Do they really think I'm interested in this kind of content?
I started thinking about what's going on. Is it my own behavior that triggered the algorithm's misjudgment? Or is there some kind of loophole in the algorithm?
I tried to analyze it, and I think the problem might be with my interaction behavior. Although I cursed out those pedophile posts, the algorithm might think I'm interested in that kind of content because I spent time reading and commenting on them.
But is this really my fault? Shouldn't I be able to express my outrage and disgust at this kind of content? Should I just ignore it and pretend it doesn't exist?
I think social media algorithms should be smarter and able to understand users' true intentions and emotions, rather than just reacting mechanically to their behavior.
