Fulfilling Father's Last Wish
There's a kind of filial piety called 'fulfilling,' which is hard to put into words. My father lay in the ICU for half a month, with daily medical expenses exceeding 10,000 yuan. His life was hanging by a thread, and my brother insisted on continuing treatment, but I pulled out a letter my father had written when he was lucid, which read: If there's no hope for recovery, let me go peacefully, don't burden the children.
My brother said: Treat him, even if it means selling the house! I understood his emotions, but I knew my father's wishes. In the end, I chose to withdraw treatment and end my father's suffering. My brother yelled at me in the corridor: You're unfilial! I pointed to the loan guarantee he had signed: You repay this 200,000 debt, and I'll continue treatment. He fell silent.
My father passed away peacefully, and I knew I had fulfilled my last act of filial piety towards him. I don't dare say whether I was right or wrong, but I know I respected my father's wishes. Perhaps everyone would make different choices, but I hope you can understand that all I wanted was for my father to leave this world at peace.
Now, I'd like to ask you: How would you choose? Would you respect your father's wishes, or would you ignore his needs due to your own emotions?
