The Shadow of Parents: Domestic Violence and Emotional Abuse
I recently met a 25-year-old woman from Tianjin whose story left me with mixed emotions. Her parents had been having extramarital affairs since she was a child, and even emotionally manipulated her, telling her that it was her fault they didn't get divorced. In reality, her parents had been physically and verbally abusive to her since she was young, often lashing out at her for minor infractions.
After hearing her story, I felt deeply saddened. There are many parents who neglect their children, and many who get divorced and start new families, but it's heartbreaking to see parents who claim to love their children yet inflict domestic violence on them without providing any financial support. This kind of behavior not only harms children physically but also damages their emotional well-being.
I fail to understand why some parents treat their children this way. Are they really unaware of the harm their actions cause? Or do they simply not care? I think it's possible that their own childhood traumas are still affecting them, causing them to mistreat their own children.
Domestic violence and emotional abuse are still prevalent in our society. We need more attention and discussion on this issue, more education and support. We need to tell those children who have been hurt that they are not alone, that we will be with them, and help them overcome their trauma and regain their confidence and happiness.
