The Douyin Era: Transformation and Metamorphosis in Chinese Society
I remember when middle school students' daily lives were so rich and colorful. They would hook up, fight, smoke, and live life like a non-stop party. Now, they're all quietly scrolling through Douyin, as if they've found a new way to have fun.
Retirees have also undergone a dramatic change. Previously, they would dance in public squares, participate in highway racing, but now they're at home, quietly browsing Douyin, sending private messages, or flirting with 40-year-old handsome men and beautiful women in live streams. They seem to have found a new way of life, enjoying interactions with young people.
Young people have also changed. Previously, they would complain about this and that, but now they're all on Douyin, abstractly seeking entertainment by watching cat and dog videos. They seem to have found a new way of life, enjoying interactions with the virtual world.
The international community is also concerned about China's changes. Previously, people worried about China's population explosion, economic explosion, and local hegemonism, but now they've discovered that East Asians are busy scrolling through Douyin, population is declining, and they're trapped in deflation. Labor has moved from factories to Douyin live broadcast studios, and they no longer have time to get married and have children.
In this context, the National Science and Technology Progress Award, as well as the Nobel Peace Prize, should be awarded to Zhu Jun and Yang Luyu, who invented Musically and rewrote the course of human civilization in the 21st century. Their innovation has not only changed China but also the world.
