Awe and Contribution: Human Double Standards
Recently, I read two sentences that made me reflect deeply. Tigers make no contribution to humans, yet they earn our awe. Pigs, on the other hand, dedicate their lives to contributing to humans, but no one looks up to them. These two sentences reveal human double standards: we admire strong and independent beings, but ignore those that give their all for us.
Tigers' power and beauty evoke awe and admiration. We visit them in zoos, watch their stories in movies, and even symbolize them in our culture. However, tigers make no tangible contribution to humans. They simply exist in their own world, living by their own rules.
In contrast, pigs make immense contributions to humans. They provide food, leather, fertilizer... yet our attitude towards pigs is vastly different. We view them as inferior animals, disregarding their feelings and needs. We even refuse to acknowledge their intelligence and emotional capacity.
This double standard is not only reflected in our attitude towards animals but also towards humans. We admire the strong and successful, but ignore those who contribute quietly. We need to rethink our values and redefine what truly constitutes value and contribution.
