The Dilemma of a Changsha Girl: The Hardship and Confusion of Underage Labor
Changsha, a city that is both familiar and strange. This is the place where my story and my sister's story unfold. We two girls dropped out of school at a very young age to start working. Our parents remarried and had new children in their new families, making us invisible.
I still remember those days of working, when our wages were always deducted, with the excuse that we were not yet adults. Like many underage workers in society, we were exploited and ignored. The older generation always said that we were too young and didn't understand things, so we didn't deserve full pay.
But we knew that our labor was real, and our sweat was real. We didn't ask for sympathy, just fairness. Why do we have to be bullied just because we're underage? Why is our labor worthless? These questions have always troubled me and my sister.
My sister and I, despite facing the same dilemma, have different personalities. My sister is stronger, always saying that we need to work hard to prove ourselves. As for me, I often lament the injustice of fate, feeling that I've been abandoned by society. We support and encourage each other, facing life's challenges together.
Now, I want to say that underage workers are not a vulnerable group. We have the right to demand fairness, and we have the right to demand respect. We are not invisible, we are part of society. Our story needs to be heard, and it needs to be recorded.
