Midnight Phone Call of Terror in a Long-Distance Relationship: Misunderstanding, Anger, and a Broken Elevator
It was a deep night, and I was lying in bed, preparing to fall asleep. Suddenly, my phone rang. It was my girlfriend calling, and I quickly picked up. However, there was no sound of her voice on the other end, only heavy breathing and the faint sound of "thuds". My heart skipped a beat, and I shouted, "What are you doing? Is there a man next to you?!"
My girlfriend was panting heavily, her voice intermittent: "No... no one else... I'm so tired... I can't take it anymore..." I completely lost it and yelled, "Who is that man?!" On the other end of the phone, there was a loud "bang", followed by my girlfriend's angry outburst: "Are you crazy?! The elevator in my dorm is broken, and I'm carrying 20 liters of water up seven floors. If you're so capable, come and help me through the internet!"
I was taken aback, and it turned out that was what had happened. My girlfriend's dorm elevator was broken, and she had to carry heavy water up seven floors, leaving her exhausted. My misunderstanding and anger disappeared, replaced by guilt and apologies. I quickly apologized and asked if she needed my help. My girlfriend laughed on the other end of the phone, her voice tired: "No need, I'm already upstairs. Don't be so silly next time."
I hung up the phone and lay in bed, thinking. This misunderstanding made me realize that long-distance relationships require more trust and communication. We can't always assume the worst, and we can't let misunderstandings and anger occupy our minds.
