The Risks and Trust Crisis of Young Entrepreneurs Borrowing Money
A friend came to him for a loan, citing the pressure of mortgage payments and a desire to start his own business instead of working for others. The loan was not a large sum, 120,000 yuan, and the business venture was a small food stall selling roasted chicken, duck, and rolled pancakes. The friend's conditions were clear: a written IOU with explicit interest rates, and if the loan couldn't be repaid, the friend's house would be used as collateral. He would be responsible for selling the house, deducting the 120,000 yuan, and returning the remainder to the friend.
The outcome was predictable. The friend began to badmouth him, saying that he was not a good person outside of their hometown, that his money was ill-gotten, and that he would distance himself from his friends and family once he became wealthy. His mother was so distressed by these words that she lost sleep over them. To this day, the two friends no longer speak to each other.
Did he really care about the house? He wanted to invest and start a business to try and turn his life around, which is admirable, at least proving that young people still have a sense of ambition. However, the risk of investment failure was not his to bear. Similarly, he was unwilling to take on even a small amount of risk, and therefore couldn't trust that his friend would repay the loan on time.
In this story, we see the risks and trust crisis faced by young entrepreneurs. Starting a business requires capital, and capital requires risk-taking, but finding a balance between risk and trust is a major challenge. Young people need better support and guidance to better handle the risks and challenges of entrepreneurship.
At the same time, this story makes us think about how trust is established and maintained. Trust requires time and communication, but also clear responsibilities and obligations. In this story, the friend's requirements were clear but also strict. Finding a balance point has become a major problem.
