The Most Transparent Way to Live in this World: 17 Pieces of Wisdom Gained from the Passage of Time
The most transparent way to live in this world comes from a deep understanding and appreciation of life. Since entering the web3 world in 2016, I've slowly come to realize some truths. Today, I'd like to share with you the 17 life lessons I've learned over the years, hoping you'll find inspiration in them.
First, those who strive to improve themselves will be helped by heaven. The deepest underlying tone of Chinese society is the never-ending pursuit of self-improvement. No matter how good your family background or starting point, you can't lose the momentum to grow upwards.
Second, reading history helps you understand the present. As the saying goes, "History repeats itself, and there's nothing new under the sun." History doesn't simply repeat itself, but it often has similar rhythms. The confusions you face today have been experienced by people hundreds of years ago.
Third, treat people's coldness and warmth with a calm mind. When you're successful, every move you make is given a positive meaning; when you're down, even valuable things are looked down upon. Human nature is biased towards reality and benefits. Don't take it too seriously when others look down on you.
Fourth, don't try to please those who dislike you. The more you crave external recognition, the more you'll be controlled by emotions. You can't change people who dislike you, no matter what you do; those who intentionally suppress you will only become more aggressive if you submit.
Fifth, it's cold at the top, and being low-key is a spiritual practice. When you're in the spotlight, you'll inevitably attract jealousy. The most beautiful flowers are picked first, the straightest trees are cut down first, and talented people face more difficulties β this is the norm. Not being arrogant when you're successful and not being humble when you're unsuccessful is the highest level of spiritual practice.
Sixth, free favors often come with the highest price. Wanting to save $500 on moving fees by asking a friend for help, you might end up damaging a $5,000 sofa and spending $1,200 on dinner, and your friend might even borrow money without paying it back.
Seventh, look inward to gain clarity. People who truly stand at a high level understand the importance of introspection. Awakening your inner awareness, practicing self-reflection, and self-guidance β when you're clear-minded, many problems will be solved naturally.
Eighth, wise people don't speak out, and being a know-it-all is a sign of low emotional intelligence. People with stable careers and wealth rarely offer unsolicited advice. Even if they have far more experience than others, they don't give suggestions easily.
Ninth, you must break free from the old to establish the new. The people who drain your energy, the thoughts that hold you back, and the old self that's holding you back β all need to be let go of. Humans naturally fear change, but all growth comes with transformation. If you don't break free from the old shell, the new one can't grow.
Tenth, don't be overly excited in success or overly anxious in failure. People with deep spiritual practice don't get too excited in success or too desperate in failure. The world is constantly changing, and many things are beyond human control. Stay calm and wait for changes β you can't rush or avoid them.
Eleventh, things are accomplished through secrecy. When you have a weak presence and lack confidence, you can't tolerate external criticism. Don't announce your goals publicly until they're accomplished.
Twelfth, keeping your mouth shut is a way to protect yourself. The first lesson when entering society is to hide your core personal information. Once others have a complete grasp of your address, hometown, parents, job, income, and more, they can assess whether they can take advantage of you.
Thirteenth, replace anxiety with action. People who are meticulous in their thinking often overthink, worrying about the future and missing opportunities. Instead of daydreaming, start with small actions. Taking action is more important than thinking things through.
Fourteenth, calm down and hide your sharp edges. People who aren't strong enough internally can't handle excessive praise. Being praised can quickly lead to a downfall.
Fifteenth, being practical is being clear-headed. When your finances are weak, talking about grand visions seems empty. As your income increases, your horizons naturally broaden. Working hard to make a living is the most practical way to live.
Sixteenth, knowing your limits is wisdom. In a closed environment, people are willing to speak their minds, but in reality, few people speak the truth. Speaking the truth can easily lead to trouble.
Seventeenth, recognize the imprint of your original family. Your personality, spending habits, and approach to problems β everyone has their parents' shadow deeply imprinted on them. Once you see it, you can try to change; if you don't see it, you'll be controlled by it for the rest of your life.
The above 17 points are the result of years of experience. It's easy to understand the principles, but hard to put them into practice. I hope you'll slowly come to realize these truths through your experiences and become more transparent in the process.
