The Past and Present of Smoking: A Changing Era
I remember when I was in school and couldn't afford cigarettes, I'd pick up discarded butts from the side of the road to smoke. Back then, cigarette butts littered the streets, as if heaven had sent them our way. We'd pick them up, clean them off, light them up, and take a deep drag, feeling the smoke fill our mouths, as if the whole world belonged to us.
Now, you never see cigarette butts on the streets anymore. The city streets are clean, and people's lifestyles have changed. Cigarettes have become scarce, and people have started to care about their health, rejecting the harm caused by cigarettes. In the past, you'd light a cigarette, take a few puffs, and it would go out on its own. Now, you can light one up and it'll burn all the way through without you even taking a drag...
I often wonder, why are cigarettes designed to burn all the way through nowadays? Is it to make it more convenient for people to smoke? Or is it to boost sales for tobacco companies? I don't know the answer, but I do know that the memories I have of smoking in the past can never be replaced.
