The Financial Markets of the Internet Era: The Future of 24/7 Online Trading
Imagine a scenario: on Friday, when the closing bell rings, traditional Wall Street falls into a two-day silence. Trading halls on the other side of the ocean are empty, and stock traders close their laptops, waiting for Monday's opening. However, in the new market where crypto and traditional finance converge, trading is still in full swing.
Just this past weekend, bStocks set an astonishing record of breaking $1 billion in daily transactions and $2 billion in total transactions over two days. What's even more interesting is that this massive inflow of funds occurred during the non-trading hours of traditional stock markets. I couldn't help but wonder: what kind of market undercurrents are reflected in this $2 billion?
I went to investigate the data in detail and, after verifying it carefully, I found that the data was indeed real and occurred over the weekend, with daily transactions stabilizing at around $1 billion. In other words, it wasn't a one-time explosive growth, but rather a genuine and stable demand from users. 7*24 isn't a hypothetical user demand by Binance, but a real need that Binance has satisfied.
The second question is, why do people choose Binance's bStocks over other tokenized stocks on the chain? Having used it personally, I think there are two main reasons: 1) real on-chain assets, which users can not only trade on Binance but also withdraw to the chain at any time; 2) the confidence to redeem at any time, as users using bStocks support 1:1 exchange for stocks at any time.
Two important measures have helped bStocks achieve $500 million in AUM. If we broaden our perspective, I think the significance of bStocks may not just be the launch of a new stock product, but rather an answer to a question: now that the internet has enabled 24/7 online access, why do financial markets still have to operate on a decades-old schedule?
In the past, we adapted to the market's trading hours, but now, more and more products are trying to make the market adapt to users' trading demands. Perhaps what will truly revolutionize traditional finance in the future is not just moving stocks to the chain, but gradually integrating traditional assets like stocks and ETFs into a 24/7, globally accessible financial infrastructure.
