The Truth About Douyin and Xiaohongshu Reviews: Ads Galore, Authenticity Takes a Hit
I've recently found myself no longer trusting reviews on Douyin and Xiaohongshu. Whether it's cosmetics, clothes, or electronics, it seems like every review has a commercial agenda. After reading a review, I always feel like I'm being sold something.
Especially when I wanted to learn some makeup skills, I watched a bunch of related videos and articles, and they all seemed to be selling me something. The soft and hard sells made me wonder what to buy, what's real, and what's fake.
I started questioning the authenticity of these reviews. Are all reviewers getting paid? Or do they genuinely like these products? I couldn't help but ask, where can I find genuine reviews? Where can I find unbiased recommendations?
As consumers, we need information to make informed decisions. But when all the information is commercialized, how do we distinguish between truth and falsehood? How do we make the right choice?
I hope more people can realize this and start seeking out genuine information and unbiased recommendations. Only then can we make our own choices, rather than being led by the nose by advertisements.
