Is Fatherly Love Like the Ocean or Like Sand?
I recently met an 18-year-old girl from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, whose story broke my heart. Her parents had forced her to obtain a visa and brought her to South Africa when she was just a teenager. However, things took a turn for the worse when her parents got divorced. Not only did her father abandon her, but he also married another woman, who threatened and beat her, and even denied her food. This girl is now just waiting for her 18th birthday to be forced into marriage.
I really struggle to understand what kind of father would do this. Is this what they call 'fatherly love'? He brought his daughter to a foreign land, only to leave her to fend for herself. What could be the motivation behind such behavior? Is it a lack of responsibility towards his daughter, or a lack of self-control?
I hope her father can see my message and hear my perspective. If you trusted your daughter enough to bring her to a foreign land, shouldn't you take responsibility for her? Shouldn't you provide her with a warm and loving home?
This girl's story reminds me of many similar cases. There are too many parents who abandon their responsibilities and their children. Their actions not only harm their kids but also hurt society as a whole.
We need more love, more responsibility, more understanding, and more support. We need to make sure that stories like this don't happen in our midst.
