A Real Podcast in a Late-Night Car: Listening to Two Women Talk About the Other Side of Adulthood
It was a typical night, and I thought it was going to be a normal date. But when I saw my date bring her girlfriend along, I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. After all, this wasn't what I had expected. However, things didn't go as I had anticipated.
From the moment they got in the car to the end of the night, over the course of 90 minutes, I found myself becoming more and more like a listener. The two women were chatting away, and I was just an accompaniment, a mere spectator. The content of their conversation was getting increasingly absurd, as if we had entered a world beyond my wildest imagination.
Her girlfriend was talking about her experience with online dating, about how she had traveled to another city to meet her online friend, only to discover that the other person didn't even know how to use a navigation app. Then, she started talking about the time she lived in a trendy LOFT apartment, and how there were all sorts of crazy stories, including someone who got reported by their neighbors for being too loud, and eventually, the police showed up. Each story was like a little bombshell, shocking me to my core.
As time went on, the conversation turned to their experiences working in a government agency and within the system. Some of the stories made me finally understand why many people present one image on social media, but are completely different in real life. It's as if everyone is wearing a mask, and only at night can they reveal their true selves.
That 90-minute car ride was like a real podcast. I was just the driver, and they were the ones telling me about the other side of adulthood, bit by bit. No script, no acting, just real conversations and stories.
