Poverty and Wealth, the Two Faces of Human Nature
I still remember that conversation with her, and one sentence she said that left a deep impression on me: 'When I have money, I don't care about him; when I don't have money, he can't control me!' At that moment, I felt a mix of shock and disgust, as if her words had revealed a hidden corner of human nature. Her sentence was like a mirror, reflecting the two faces of human nature: one face of indifference in times of wealth, and another face of helplessness and passivity in times of poverty.
After hearing her words, I started to reflect on why this phenomenon exists. Why do people change the way they treat others based on their economic situation? I began to realize that economic problems are not just material issues, but also deeply affect human nature. They can change our attitude towards others, our self-positioning, and our relationships with others.
Later, I gradually lost contact with her. Today, when Dang Dang Jie came knocking on my door again, I knew something must have happened. Perhaps she had fallen into financial trouble again, perhaps she had experienced the helplessness of human nature again. Her knocking on the door seemed to remind me that human nature is far more complex than we imagine.
